Our Priorities

Worship

Because God matters most and because He has saved us by His grace, we believe that the worship of God is our great priority as a church. It is the one thing that we will be doing forever, and we are trying to get off to a good start here and now. This is why a main feature of body life at SCC is our regular gathered times of biblical and Christ-centered worship. Our times of worship are simple and full of the hearing of Scripture, prayer, singing, Christ-centered expository preaching, sacrificial giving, and joyful remembrance of all that God has done for us in Jesus Christ.

Fellowship

God in His extravagant grace has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light (1 Pet 2:9) and as a result has called us into a family with one another. Christ has made us a family. Because of what He has done for us we are now members of one body, united with one another by His grace, and called to love one another for his glory (1 John 4:7-21). Gospel-rooted relationships with one another are a major priority at our church.

Discipleship

Because we have been saved by God’s grace alone, we know that we have not arrived. We believe that love for God and for one another, as a result, requires that we seek to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. So, we want to pursue growth in godliness and ministry skill together, and maintain an attitude of humility that leads us to increasing spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness. This is why in addition to our times of worship and fellowship; we also provide opportunities for biblical training and discipleship – in various classes and studies, accountability groups, and discipleship relationships that take place on Sunday mornings and throughout the week.

Evangelism

We believe that the greatest need of all people is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is through the Gospel of Jesus that sinners can be saved from the penalty, and power, and ultimately the presence of sin. There is no need greater than this. So, as individuals we are constantly encouraging one another to find ways to take the Gospel to our friends, and neighbors, and co-workers, and acquaintances so that they might know the saving love of God through the personal knowledge of Jesus Christ. And, as a church we look for ways to share the Gospel together, in local outreach events and by supporting Gospel proclaiming ministries and missionaries throughout the world.

What all of this means is that at SCC we are trying to keep things simple and focused in the right direction. In all of our programs and activities, the mission of glorifying God together as we enjoy and spread the riches of His grace in Jesus Christ, is our consistent aim. Though we’re constantly building our programs to meet the needs of people, our goal is to remain faithful to God and clearly focused on the person and work of Jesus Christ. This isn’t always easy, and we don’t always do it perfectly, but we are always striving to make sure that in all we do, God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ remain the basis and the energizing realities of our fellowship.
