To the Comfortable Christ-less Church
In this final sermon on the 7 letters of Christ to his churches in Revelation 2-3, we'll seek to hear what the Spirit says to us as he speaks to the comfortable and Christ-less church of Laodicea in Revelation 3:14-22. What sort of church keeps Jesus on the outside looking in (see v. 20)?
To the Weak Beloved Church
The sixth letter of Christ to his churches in Revelation 2-3 is the most encouraging letter by far. In it, Christ encourages and expresses his love for the weak but faithful church of ancient Philadelphia. In this sermon, we will explore what can learn from the way Christ speaks to this church in Revelation 3:7-13, and how we can become more like this church.
To the Vibrant Lifeless Church
In this sermon, we'll dig into the sobering words of Christ to a church that looks very alive on the outside, but is very much dead on the inside. Revelation 3:1-6 is a letter to a vibrant [but] lifeless church, with convicting words that every Christian needs to hear.
To the Loving Undiscerning Church
Returning back to our series of expositions through Christ's letters to his churches in Revelation 2 & 3, we'll dig into Jesus' words to the loving but alarmingly undiscerning church in Thyatira.
All Things for Good
In this sermon, we will dive into one of the most encouraging, and yet difficult to believe, promises in the Bible - Romans 8:28.
Suffering Swallowed Up by Glory
This Lord's Day we're going to take a short break from our series in Revelation 2-3 to find encouragement from the truth of Romans 8:18.
To the Courageous Compromising Church
In Christ's third letter to the churches of Revelation 2-3, we will seek to hear and learn from what the Spirit says to the courageous (yet) compromising church in Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17). What can we learn from a church that was standing strong against the external pressures of the culture, while caving into the internal pressures of sin and temptation? We'll explore that in this sermon.
To the Troubled Suffering Church
This Lord's Day we will hear and work through Christ's letter to the struggling church in Smyrna. We'll consider the sufferings they were enduring and the way Christ encourages them, and then spend some time applying the passage to our current circumstances as a church.
To The Loveless Orthodox Church
In this sermon, we will kick off a new mini-series on Christ's letters to his churches in Revelation 2-3. In this first letter (Revelation 2:1-7), we'll see consider what Christ has to say to the church in Ephesus, a church much like our own. We'll meditate on the danger of a loveless orthodoxy and hear what Christ has to say to a church that has fallen prey to this danger.
What Baptism Pictures
In this Baptism Sunday sermon, we'll consider three truths that are pictured in the ordinance of baptism.
Faithfully Focused on Christ
In this final exposition of the letter of 1 Timothy, we'll look to Paul's closing words in 1 Timothy 6:17-21 which call us to stay focused on Christ as a church.
Warning! Don't Stagnate or Forsake Christ!
The third warning passage in the book of Hebrews calls us to seriously evaluate our spiritual lives.
A Faithfully Godward Church
This sermon returns back to 1 Timothy 6:11-16 to dwell on the importance of a high view of God in local church ministry.
A Faithful Reformation
Every church needs to experience ongoing reformation until Jesus returns. In 1 Timothy 6:11-16, we'll begin to explore 6 ways Christians can faithfully bring needed reformation to the local church.
Identifying Unfaithful Teachers
Continuing our line-by-line study of the letter of 1 Timothy, we'll consider the four marks of unfaithful teachers given in 1 Timothy 6:2b-10. Do you know how to spot an unfaithful spiritual leader? Paul's instructions in these verses are very helpful for learning how to do so.
Death Precedes Life
This Resurrection Sunday our Scripture text is 1 Corinthians 15:35-49. We'll dig into this passage together and consider how Paul uses the relationship of seeds to crops and of Adam to Christ to address the skepticism of those who believe the resurrection of all believers to be impossible. God's work in nature and in redemption both testify to the fact that in God's world, death precedes life.
Christian Identity & Peter's Call to Action
The book of 1 Peter has much to say about Christian identity and how Christians are to respond to trials, suffering, and the alienation that comes from our allegiance to Jesus Christ. In this week's passage, we'll look at 1 Peter 1:13-21 to see the different ways Christians are encouraged to live out their faith and respond to the grace of God in hope, holiness, and reverent worship.
Faithfulness in Hard Places
In this sermon, we will tackle the difficult words of 1 Timothy 6:1-2, where God instructs slaves to show respect and work hard for their earthly masters for the sake of the Gospel. There is no downplaying the difficulty of obeying teaching like this, nor of situations like that which it addresses. But God calls us to faithfulness even in the hardest of situations, as we'll hear in these two verses.
A Slow and Patient Faithfulness
In 1 Timothy 5:22-25, Paul urges Timothy to proceed with caution when appointing new pastors in the Ephesian church. As we look to this passage together, we'll consider the importance of patience and slowness in our ministry as a church.
How to Handle Unfaithful Pastors
Continuing in our line by line study of 1 Timothy, we'll wrestle with Paul's instruction in 1 Timothy 5:19-21 which teaches us what to do when a pastor becomes morally disqualified from serving as a pastor. Hard situations like this require clear and direct instructions, like what God gives us in this text. This passage will help us see that doing what's right in the church is far better than simply doing what's easy. May Christ be honored as we hear and respond to his Word again on Sunday.
